And who by fire- Anika- small file“And who by fire” –  medium: oil on canvas dimensions: 160x130cm

Anika Mariam Ahmed (b.1988 in Dhaka, BD) did her MFA in Painting at the Frank Mohr Institute, Groningen, and undergraduate studies in Painting and English Literature in Dhaka.  She is the recipient of the Buning Brongers Prize 2016, and the Mondriaan Fonds Jong Talent grant in 2017, which supports her current residency at Kaus Australis, Rotterdam. Anika accumulates images from seen and imagined sources from personal photographs, true and false memories, found material, combining the everyday and banal to the dramatic, tilting to the unreal while distilling personal and observed experiences. She explores painterly and pictorial methods to create atmospheres that wish to remain open and unanswered. Themes that re-occur in her work encompass the private and the public, chaos and calm, love and fear.

andreeaAndreea Peterfi (b.1991 in Bucharest, RO) is employing an ongoing study of language as a primary subject, which comes and takes different forms during the process of research. Her artistic background is rooted in photography and it often functions as the blueprint of her projects. During her study of Graphic Design at Gerrit Rietveld Academie (2012 – 2016) her practice developed into finding ways of documenting, collecting and deconstructing events and narratives, that she later reassembles and ping-pongs back into language based games, books, or installation formats.
In her residency at Kaus Australis, she has been collecting images throughout the city (a stage on which the audience is at the same time the participant), that show the presence of the human interaction within the urban environment by recording the “props” left behind at the end of a temporal scene.

He has been a participant of the Jan van Eyck Academie for the period 2016-2017, supported by a bijdrage praktijkverdieping from the Mondriaan Fund.
